NATALIA TROULL

Russia

Natalia Troull began studying piano in her native St. Petersburg. She later moved to Moscow, where she graduated from the Moscow Conservatory. Among her teachers were professors Y. Zak, M. Voskresensky, and T. Kravchenko.

Her performance career was launched when she won first prize at the Belgrade International Piano Competition in 1983. However, her biggest success came in 1986 when she won the silver medal at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition. The public was swept off its feet by her interpretations of composers such as Schubert and Stravinsky. Her performance of the “Petroushka” suite left an everlasting impression on both the public and critics.

In 1993, Natalia Troull was awarded the Grand Prix at the Piano Masters Competition in Monte-Carlo, where only winners of international competitions are accepted as participants. Her complete control and exceptional virtuosity place her in a class of her own, making her in high demand as a performer worldwide.

Among the distinguished orchestras with which she has performed are the London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Monte-Carlo, Tonhalle Symphony Orchestra, and all of the major Russian symphony orchestras.

Natalia Troull has also played with renowned conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Raymond Leppard, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Eri Klas, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Vassily Sinaisky, and Yuri Temirkanov, among others. Her repertoire includes over 50 concertos, with the Tchaikovsky concerto being especially popular; she has performed this work over one hundred times in the world’s leading concert halls. Her most brilliant performances of the Tchaikovsky concerto were at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under Eri Klas and at Suntory Hall with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Koizumi Kazuhiro (1998-99 season).

Today, Natalia’s performances are remarkable for her complete immersion in the music, her unique stage presence, and her technical mastery across a wide repertoire of works. Natalia Troull is frequently invited to teach in the U.S.A., Japan, Italy, Germany, and South America. She is a professor at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and a permanent jury member for many international piano competitions.
